In the last decade, the research performed at the GDPL has consistently increased in breadth, and through partnerships with industry, government institutions and multidisciplinary UC ventures, the magnitude of research peformed in the lab has grown accordingly. Due to the healthy demand for research overseen by the world-class faculty, the number of graduate student researchers recruited each year has continually grown. Currently, about 20 PhD and MS students perform relevant fundamental research in the GDPL facilities. To maintain this growth, the lab expanded to the Center Hill research facility North of the UC main campus. This addition currently houses combustion research, and further offers the ability to expand and multiply the configurations possible for the various GDPL programs.
