Francesco Simonetti
Ph.D., M.Sc. is the Director of USIL. He is also an Ohio Research Scholar and Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics since 2011. Prior to joining UC he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London. He held a five-year research fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK which he was awarded in 2005 after completion of his PhD at Imperial. Francesco has been a faculty affiliate at Los Alamos National Laboratory since 2006.
His CV is available here.
USIL director
Jorge Rodgrigo Quitero
A Ph.D. Student in the School of Aerospace Systems, focusing on solids and structures. He is performing a study on the interacion between water droplets and Rayleigh waves in steel plates. His back ground includes former work designing components, and assemblies for use in jet engines. He earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Technological Institute of Monterrey in 2006 and his M.E. from the School of Aerospace Systems at the University of Cincinnati in 2011.

Alex Brath
A Ph.D. Student in the School of Aerospace Systems, Alex has been working on guided wave tomography in curved tubular structures and focusing phased array images through curved surfaces. His former work includes research and testing on acoustic liners for commercial jet engines. Alex also has 10 years of experience working as a toolmaker/machinist prior to attending UC. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Cincinnati in 2014.

Isaak Satov
A M.Sc. Student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics focusing on solids and structures, Isaak is currently developing techniques to detect distributed porosity in thin plates using guided waves. His previous experience includes work as an undergraduate co-op developing and testing ultrasonic inspection methods, as well as industrial experience in the engineering and manufacture of advanced aerospace engine composites. He earned his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 2016.

Steven Higgins
A M.Sc. Student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics focusing on solids and structural mechanics. As an undergraduate student, Steve worked for three semesters at Quartus Engineering Inc. in San Diego, CA performing static finite element analyses. In his final two co-op rotations, he spent his time with Kinetic Vision in Cincinnati, OH performing both static and dynamic finite element analyses as well as generating codes to automate these processes with Python. Steve participated in the AY-REU program at UC as a student researcher working with Dr. Elad Kivelevitch exploring swarm optimization techniques for unmanned vehicles, and generated his own surveying code using MATLAB. Most recently Steve acted as chief engineer for the UC Aerocats Regular Class team who placed 2nd overall and won 1st place in heaviest payload carried at the 2015 SAE International Aero Design East competition held in Fort Worth, TX. He earned his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 2016.

Justin Nevitt
An Undergraduate Research Student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Justin's research efforts include defect detection in polymer-matrix composites. His former experience includes flight testing, experimental structural test, and aerodynamic performance for aircraft. Justin will earn a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Cincinnati (April 2016).
